TO BECOME A LIBRARY MEMBER Cards are free to all residents of our legal service area: Montpelier, Berlin, Calais, East Montpelier, Middlesex, and Worcester. We ask to see proof of your current address, we ask for a license or ID number, and patrons under the age of 18 need a signature of parent or guardian.
If you live outside the legal service area, the following tax replacement charges apply as of July 1, 2010: Single person: $37 Family: $44 Single senior (65 and over): $28 Senior couple: $37
These charges are tied to the per-capita tax support that Montpelier residents voted on Town Meeting day 2010. All future charges will be commensurate with Montpelier's tax support.

FREE PUBLIC INTERNET ACCESS There are eight public access computers in the adult library and two in the children's library. Sessions are 30 minutes per day. Printing is $.15 per page (b&w). Please read our full Rules of Use as well as our Internet Policy.

FREE WI-FI Free wi-fi is available throughout the library. Select Kellogg-Hubbard Library in your list of available networks.

The maximum number of items that can be checked out per patron is 50.

Loan Periods: 2 weeks for most materials in adult library; 4 weeks in the children's library; 1 week only for magazines, DVDs and videos from the adult library; in the children's library the dvds go out for 2 weeks.

Overdue Fines: Most fines are 15 cents per day, per item. Fines for videos, DVDs, and interlibrary loans are 50 cents per day. If a patron has fines that total $10 or more, the account is restricted.

CHECK YOUR OWN ACCOUNT ONLINE- go to OUR catalog, click on My Info (third tab from right) type in your entire patron barcode number from the back of your patron card, and type in YOUR LAST NAME for "password." (Please CALL 223-3338 - no e-mails - to place holds or renew materials.)

The library MAILS (no phone calls or e-mails) a notice listing materials that are two weeks overdue. The library mails a bill for items that are one month overdue. If a patron has been billed for materials their account is restricted. Nothing may be checked out until the item(s) are returned or the library is paid the replacement cost(s). Please read our Lost Book policy.

Interlibrary Loan: If we don't have a book you want, we can borrow it for you from another library. Just fill out a form at the desk.
Suggestions and donations from people in the community are encouraged and are given serious consideration. We want to hear from you. All material added to our collection by suggestion or gift must meet the same criteria as ordinarily used in choosing items.

There is a replacement fee of $3 for lost library cards.

There is no library parking. There is metered parking on Main and School Streets.

When the library is closed, materials can be returned to the bookdrop at the front of the library. DO NOT LEAVE MATERIALS ON TOP OF THE BOOKDROP. If the bookdrop is full, please return materials as soon as possible and we will adjust or delete the fine(s).

The library accepts donations for the book sales of books and audio / visual materials that are in good condition. We do not accept materials that are moldy or musty, abridged books (Readers Digest Condensed Books), textbooks, encyclopedias, or magazines.

NON-MONETARY DONATIONS Donations of books, a/v materials, magazines*, magazine subscriptions, artwork, furniture, etc. to the library are considered for inclusion based upon the needs and policies of the library.
All such donations are gratefully accepted with the understanding that these items become the property of the Library to be used or displayed as need and space permit. It cannot give any guarantee that such items will be kept indefinitely and it reserves the right to sell any donated items to benefit the Library.
The library cannot place a value on non-monetary donations. For IRS purposes, the value must be determined by the donor.
*Donations of recent issues of magazines are welcomed for the free magazine exchange rack.

From our website, EVERYONE can access our catalog, find links for adult and children's programs and events at the library (all are welcome and the library is handicapped accessible), reading recommendations, community and state information, and much more.
Library PATRONS can check their account online (no holds or renewals for now), download audio books from Listen Up! Vermont, and access the Vermont Online Library, Wilson Web, and Heritage Quest Online databases.

If you are interested in volunteering at the Kellogg-Hubbard, please fill out the volunteer application form and mail it to us. We will let you know about opportunities as they come up. (If you subscribe to Adobe's online service you may be able to fill it out online and email it. Otherwise just print out the form, fill in, and mail. Thank-you!

If you or someone you know is not able to get to the library, especially during the winter months, call about our home delivery service. We will do our best to arrange pickup and delivery, and we will even help to choose books that you might enjoy reading.
The KHL's Books on Wheels Outreach Program brings books to area day cares and community centers.

Even if you don't have a library card, there are many resources you can access at KHL. - Internet. We have computers that anyone can use for one 30-minute session per person, per day. Printing is available for 15¢ per page. We also have free wi-fi.
- Paperbacks. To the right of the new-release section, there's a shelf of uncatalogued paperbacks that you can borrow for as long as you like. Just let us know how many you take, and bring them back when you're done.
- Magazine exchange. In the back of the non-fiction room, there's a magazine rack where you can leave RECENT issues, or take magazines.
- Book sales. We have four month-long book sales per year, with books, CDs, DVDs, cassettes, VHS tapes, and magazines, all affordably priced.
- Lectures, screenings, and discussions. Check our website or pick up an event brochure at the library.
- Story Times on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and many other Children's Library programs.
