Landscape Design with Jean Vissering Landscape Architect Monday, February 6, 2010 6:30 to 8pm Come learn about landscape design from a pro! Farms & Gardens book series- A Country Year by Sue Hubbell Wednesday Feb 8, at 6:30pm Join scholar Linda Bland for a discussion of A Country Year by Sue Hubbell. Vermonters know well the rich metaphors inherent in farming and gardening. This book-and-discussion series digs deep to explore the philosophical roots, family dynamics, and personal enrichment associated with tending and growing. Books are on loan at the Library. Recorded Books' Universal Class is an educational service providing high quality online courses for patrons (generally high-school age and older) interested in the lifelong pursuit of knowledge. Patrons register online, participate in the classes online at their own pace, correspond with instructors online and have up to six months to complete an individual class. Class content covers a wide range, from hobbies (arts and crafts, dog training, photography) to job skills (writing improvement, medical billing, computer programming, domestic violence counseling) to education and test prepapration (writing for children, general science, Algebra, Homeschooling Strategies) - and much more, FREE! ~ANNOUNCEMENT- Our apologies: E-books and digital downloads will be available starting March 1st. Rug Raffle! Drawing February 29, 2012. We have a beautiful 4x6 rug made in India which was donated by Global Gifts. Drawing is February 29, 2012. Tickets are $2 apiece, 6 for $10 and 15 for $20. | Local Community Lunches, Soup Kitchens & Food Shelves ~New Materials Adult library February 2012 Children's and YA January 2012 ~CHECK YOUR OWN ACCOUNT ONLINE- go to OUR catalog, click on My Info (fourth icon from the right) type in your entire patron barcode number from the back of your patron card, and type in YOUR LAST NAME for "password." You can see what you have checked out, when it's due, if there are any fines, and what you have on hold. (Please CALL 223-3338 - no e-mails - to place new holds or renew materials.) ~Vermont Constitution audio Thanks to staff member Gwen Roolf the library now has an audio version (cd) of the Vermont Constitution. It's about 50 minutes long, and each track is about 1 minute long. It can be played in a regular CD player, or on a computer. When played on a computer, each track will display a title of the sections read on that track. ~PERIODICALS Here is a list of periodicals currently available at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Back issues may be checked out for one week. We keep approximately two years of monthly periodicals, and six months of weekly periodicals. Come in and browse! ~HUGE NEWS about VOL: with your patron barcode you have access to the Vermont Online Library, and as part of the Gale PowerSearch upgrade, many of the Gale databases in Vermont Online Library now offer free audio of articles as a downloadable MP3 file. Audio is offered as an option along with emailing or downloading the text file. These options appear in a small box on the right side of the individual article. (Please note that if an article is represented in the database by a citation only, not full text, the audio version will be only the citation, not the complete article.) In addition to the audio in the PowerSearch databases, Gale can translate the text version (not audio) into several languages.  ~ANNOUNCEMENT- Our apologies: Downloadable audios and ebooks will not be available on the KHL web site temporarily until a replacement solution is found. Internet websites and classified ads are no longer the surest route to employment. The Library's latest edition of the Job Hunter's Sourcebook is designed to help you in your job search. Here's how it works: Under each type of employment (auto mechanic, caterer, computer programmer, etc.), you will find references to sources of help-wanted ads specific to your career, employer directories and networking lists, job referral services, online job sources and services, trade shows, journals, professional associations and more. While the book must be used in the library, you are welcome to make photocopies of needed pages. The library staff will be happy to help you use the references you find to further your search and land the job you want.
