| Our sister library, BIBLIOTECA LA CHISPA Planting Hope Located in an area that lacks even basic water and sewer services, the children in the La Chispa, Nicaraugua community had no access to picture books or reference works, and public access to computers was miles away. Opened on May 20th, 2002, the library has already become a valued community resource. Said one 7 year-old, "Every day that I come here I read more and more books!" | |

| February 2009 From Sandal Cate: “We had a fine meeting of the two sister library directors, Hilari Farrington and Sonia Castro. Darryl Bloom escorted the group. Digna Cardoza impressed Hilari and Rachel with her English skills and interest in various books throughout the library, and Josue Santana Garcia Aguilar was so curious about the custom of leaving a dictionary propped open for use! We also met up serendipitously with Dan Pudvah, Executive Director of KHL. Many thanks to Hilari and Rachel for agreeing to the appointment and for being such gracious hosts to the group. Also, muchas gracias for the GENEROUS gift of many books in Spanish that will be very useful in the Planting Hope La Chispa Library (and perhaps to El Chile, too!) I'm sure the library seemed like a fabulous castle for books to the visitors, but prior to their arrival I did emphasize to Hilari and Rachel how beautiful the La Chispa library is in its visual appearance as well as the most amazing ways that it functions in its neighborhood to facilitate greater educational and cultural advantages. I am so proud of both sister libraries, their staff, their functions and programs, and their way of relating to their communities. This meeting was a pleasure to facilitate. Hasta la vista, Sandal Cate” ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
